Valencia, Spain, and Madrid (22nd February, 2023) –
ALTER TECHNOLOGY TÜV NORD, focused on the sector of high reliability applications, packaging and testing, enters a 4 years agreement with UPVfab, the microfabrication facility at the Universitat Politècnica de València, for technology support through UPVfab’s resident company programme.
Mr. Demetrio López, Head of Innovation and New Technologies, confirms the strategy of the company on photonics: To replace or enhance conventional electrical approaches in the fields of digital and RF telecom equipment, sensors, micro lidars and spectrometers, etc … by reducing the size, weight, or power of the systems they replace. In this scenario, our target is to provide a one stop shopping center covering all needs from design to final testing at equipment level with specific focus on assembly and packaging as well as reliability testing.
Prof. Pascual Muñoz, Director for UPVfab stressed the need for tighter academy-industry interaction, more than usual mechanisms such as service or R&D contracts: “our resident company programme allows for companies to bring in equipment and personnel to the cleanroom, and to have direct hands-on access to our toolset and live cooperation with our experts”. Dr. Gloria Micó, Facility Manager for UPVfab complemented “we have an ambitious infrastructure upgrade plan, aligned with the current and lead resident companies, so as to create and industrial eco-system within the fab”. UPVfab is supporting research and development activities in three areas, photonics, electronics and chemical engineering. All the groups share the need of semiconductor front and backend processes, and have strong vocation of technology transfer and entrepreneurship. “We envision new UPV spin-off companies starting-up on the processes and capabilities we are developing”, Dr. Micó said.
About UPVfab
UPVfab is the micro-fabrication R&D and pilot line facility at Universitat Politècnica de València. The facility comprises 500m2 cleanrooms ISO-7 (class 10.000) and positions to serve with automation tools for backend processing of semiconductor wafers.
